Sanjay Manjrekar on Ashwin: The 14th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) was not special for Delhi Capitals (DC) star spinner R Ashwin. In this season he played 13 matches and took only 7 wickets. In Qualifier-2 on Wednesday, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batsman Rahul Tripathi gave his team victory by hitting a six off Ashwin. With this, Delhi’s dream of winning the IPL trophy was also shattered. Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has been furious over Ashwin’s performance. He said that he does not take a player like Ashwin in the T20 team.
Let us know that KKR needed 7 runs to win in the last over. Ashwin starts the over brilliantly. He dismissed Shakib Al Hasan and Sunil Narine in successive deliveries. But he bowled Rahul Tripathi outside the off-stump, which the KKR batsman hit a six over long off. Ashwin bowled well in this match. But a bad ball threw Delhi out of the final.
‘Ashwin is talked about a lot’
Manjrekar said, ‘A lot is talked about Ashwin. He is not a T20 bowler. If you want to change him, I don’t think it will happen because he has been like this for the last seven years. He is a great bowler in the test format. Manjrekar further said that Ashwin bowls the same way in all three formats. He also said that he would have taken Yuzvendra Chahal or Varun Chakraborty in the team on the turn taking wicket. Sanjay Manjrekar said that the franchise may not show interest in taking Ashwin in their team. He has not been a wicket-taker in T20. I don’t think he will be taken in the team to stop runs.
