IPL 2021 Final: In the final match of IPL 2021 (IPL 20201), Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 27 runs to capture the trophy for the fourth time. After taking the toss to bat first, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) scored 192 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in 20 overs. After this, the team of KKR, chasing the target, could only manage 165 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in the allotted overs. KKR’s star all-rounder Andre Russell was not a part of the playing XI in the final match. Now the reason for not playing this match has been revealed.
Russell was injured
Andre Russell suffered a hamstring injury. Due to which he could not play many matches in the UAE leg of the IPL. However, it was expected that he would be a part of KKR’s playing XI in the final against CSK. But he could not play the final match. Now Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) head coach Brendon McCullum has now spoken openly about this.
Russell was injured while fielding in a league match against CSK. McCullum said the all-rounder worked hard to recover from his hamstring injury and be available for the match. But he was not quite fit. The coach further added that in the end, the management decided to go with the same winning combination who performed so well to take us to the finals and I am proud of all their achievements. Brendon McCullum said in the post-match press conference, It is a shame that we missed the chase, but today we were defeated by a very good team from CSK.
